Walk-in showers are a brilliant way to modernise a bathroom, offering a sleek, contemporary look while being exceptionally easy to clean and low maintenance. Their open, spacious design makes them both practical and stylish — and they can even be positioned in front of windows, making them a smart choice where layout is limited. While they may not be right for every space, they’re well worth considering — especially as replacing a bathtub with a walk-in shower is one of the few partial refurbishments that can deliver such a noticeable and worthwhile improvement.
We’ll work with you to find the best way to incorporate a walk in shower into your bathroom design. This page is all about walk in shower, but you can explore more of our work on our homepage. If you’re unsure whether a bath is right for you, have a look at our past projects or ideas pages for inspiration. You can check our quote & work process page for more details on how we do things.
If you’re in Aberdeen or the surrounding areas, get in touch to arrange a visit. Because we specialise in bathrooms, we’ll see solutions that others might miss.

Walk in Shower, PortlethenHow much is a walk in shower?
Prices start from around £7,500 (including VAT) for a straightforward refurbishment, with panels throughout and a similar layout.
Can I get a level tray?
It depends on the existing plumbing. If there was previously a bathtub, we may need to construct a small step to ensure proper drainage. In some cases, it is possible to achieve a level floor, but this can come at a significant cost. For example, in one instance, we had to drill through a thick granite wall to install a new waste pipe—a process that took nearly two days.
What size can the tray be?
The most common shower tray size is 1700x700mm, followed by 1700x800mm. The 1700x700mm tray matches the dimensions of a standard bathtub, but if space allows, the 1700x800mm option provides a more comfortable showering experience. We’ve installed a range of sizes in the past, from as small as 1200x800mm to as large as 1900x800mm. The ideal size will depend on the layout of your bathroom, and we’ll help determine the best fit for your space.
Do I need a flipper?
In many of our past projects, you’ll notice that walk-in showers often include a flipper panel. This movable section is useful when a longer fixed glass panel isn’t an option. Ideally, a 900mm glass panel is recommended to minimise water splashes outside the spray area, but this isn’t always possible. When space is limited, we typically install a 700mm fixed glass panel alongside a 300mm flipper panel to provide the best balance of coverage and accessibility.
Can I have the controls outside spray area?
Yes, this is a common feature we include with walk-in showers. If you opt for a concealed shower, we can position the controls at the shower entrance, allowing you to turn the water on and step into a warm shower rather than having to reach in while it’s still cold.
Can I get an antislip tray?
Yes, we can install an anti-slip tray at an additional cost. While it does offer better slip protection, the downside is that its textured surface makes it more difficult to clean compared to a standard tray.
Does it have to be a full refurbishment?
Walk-in showers are the only projects we occasionally take on as partial refurbishments, specifically for converting a bathtub into a walk-in shower. While partial refurbishments don’t always achieve the best aesthetic results, they can be a practical solution, particularly for those with mobility issues. This process involves removing the old bathtub, installing a tray of the same size, and fitting panels over the existing surfaces.
You can read more about this on this page.
Will there be splashes outside the tray?
There will be some splashes, but only a few. The larger the shower tray, the less chance of water spraying outside—this applies to both width and length, as a bigger tray helps catch more water droplets.
In cases where we need to install a 700mm-wide walk-in shower with a 700mm glass panel—such as when a sink is positioned near the entrance—the sink must be waterproof. You can choose from our range of waterproof vanity units (we offer several fully waterproof options) or opt for a standard pedestal sink. This ensures the vanity unit doesn’t swell, as standard units will get damaged by constant water exposure.
Walk in Shower Ideas
Walk in shower at the end of the room
In this project in Bridge of Don, the walk-in shower was installed at the end of the room, with a small wall built to accommodate the soil pipe. The window surround was also tiled, ensuring a fully waterproof finish. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in Shower with Single Fixed Glass
Here, we installed a large 1200mm glass panel on a 1700mm tray, creating a sleek, minimalist look with easy maintenance. You can find the whole project here.

Open Ended Walk in shower
Do you have a spacious bathroom? An open walk-in shower could be the perfect design choice for a sleek and modern look. This was for a property close to Inverurie. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in shower with sliding doors
A walk-in shower is typically open on one side, but in this Westhill project, the customer preferred a fully enclosed design. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in Shower with Framed Glass
Black-framed walk-in showers are growing in popularity, adding a sleek, modern touch. You can find the whole project here.

Utilised the space at the end of the shower
In this project, we had approximately 150mm of space around the walk-in shower, which we utilised to create three recessed niches—one inside the shower for convenience and two on the side for additional storage. We also installed a compact pull-out unit at the bottom, making the most of the available space. You can find the whole project here.

Radiator in the walk in shower
If space is limited, the radiator can be installed within the walk-in shower area. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in Shower at the end of the room
Placing a walk-in shower at the end of the room is one of the most effective layout choices. It keeps the shower area separate, helping to contain splashes and keeping the toilet and sink areas drier and more practical. You can find the whole project here.

Small Walk in shower
This is a compact walk-in shower where the customer opted for a false wall at the end, allowing space for a built-in unit and a thermostatic douche. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in shower under sloped area
A walk-in shower is an ideal solution for rooms with a sloped roof, as shown in this example. You can find the whole project here.

Use two-tone panels for a stylish contrast
In this bathroom, we used dark panels in the walk-in shower area and light panels throughout the rest of the room for contrast. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in Shower and Pedestal Sink
This customer needed a walk-in shower. Ideally, we would have repositioned it to another wall, but the window made this impossible. To work around this, we used a pedestal sink along with a fixed pane and a flipper panel. The pedestal sink keeps the space open and unobtrusive compared to a vanity unit, while also being fully waterproof. The flipper panel creates a wider entry into the shower, improving accessibility. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in shower with frosted glass under sloped part
If the slope isn’t too steep, the shower can be positioned on the sloped section. For this customer, we built out the wall slightly to accommodate frosted glass, added a recessed shelf for storage, and installed a thermostatic shower on the side wall. You can find the whole project here.

Build fake wall for Shower Recess
This bathroom was slightly larger than the standard 1700mm walk-in shower tray. To make the space work, we built a false wall in the shower area, incorporating a wide recessed shelf for shampoos. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in shower and custom built units
If there’s no window, this layout optimises both shower space and storage, making the most of the available room. You can find the whole project here.

Walk In Shower Under Sloped part and Recesses at the end
Here, we installed a walk-in shower and built an end wall with deep recesses for added storage. You can find the whole project here.

Small Walk in Shower
A walk-in shower is typically spacious but can be adapted to smaller areas. Here, we used a 1500mm tray with a fixed glass panel at the end. To create more entry space, we fitted a 700mm end glass on a 760mm tray. You can find the whole project here.

Walk in shower with brushed brass fittings
This walk-in shower is uniquely designed to fit beneath a sloped ceiling on both sides. It features a concealed brushed shower, brushed brass glass and panel trims, and a matching brushed brass towel radiator for a sleek, elegant finish. You can find the whole project here.

Multiple Recesses
Recesses are a great way to make use of otherwise wasted space. In this bathroom, we incorporated four—two deep recesses ideal for storing towels and two within the walk-in shower for toiletries. You can find the whole project here.

Fake wall at the end of the shower with recesses and unit
At the end of the walk-in shower, we built a false wall to seamlessly integrate a flush-fitted cupboard with the panels, along with two black recessed shelves for added storage. You can find the whole project here.

Smoked Glass Screen Walk in Shower
This customer in Mastrick wanted a smoked glass screen for their walk-in shower, which we sourced from our trusted suppliers. You can find the whole project here.

Recesses at end of walk in shower
We often take this approach when installing a walk-in shower under a sloped ceiling, making use of the space at the end with built-in recesses. In this case, we used panels with black trims for a sleek finish. You can find the whole project here.

Recessed unit at the end of walk in shower
This customer in Hilton wanted to make the most of the space at the end of their walk-in shower, so we installed a built-in unit within the wall. You can find the whole project here.

Small Walk in Shower
In larger bathrooms, a compact walk-in shower can be seamlessly integrated with smart storage solutions. This example features L-shaped units paired with a small walk-in shower, maximising both functionality and style. You can find the whole project here.
