Ensuites often feel more personal than a main bathroom—tucked away, more private, and tailored to your daily routine. Because of that, there’s a bit more freedom with the design. You can lean into practicality over minimalism, with extra storage and a layout that suits how you actually use the space.
The biggest challenge is usually the size. While we’ve worked on some generously sized ensuites, most are compact, so smart use of space is key. Thoughtful design makes all the difference when every inch counts.
This page is all ensuites, but you can explore more of our work on our homepage. Have a look at our past projects or ideas pages for inspiration. You can check our quote & work process page for more details on how we do things.
How much is an ensuite?
Prices start from around £7 000 (including VAT) for a straightforward refurbishment, with panels throughout and a similar layout.
Will I have a step for the shower?
It depends on your existing plumbing setup. If your current shower is level with the floor, it’s likely we can maintain that. However, if there’s already a step, we may or may not be able to remove it—this will depend on several factors, including drainage and floor structure.
Can I get a pocket door?
A pocket door is a brilliant space-saving feature for an ensuite, and in most cases, we can install one. While the cost is slightly higher — typically between £800 and £1,000 — it can make a big difference to the overall layout, especially in tighter spaces where a traditional door might get in the way.
What kind of enclosures can I get?
The most common types of enclosures are rectangular and quadrant, both available in a range of finishes and styles to suit your space. One option we often recommend—especially when dealing with more complex layouts—is a three-sided enclosure, which can be a clever solution in certain designs.
Can I change an electric shower to a thermostatic shower?
In most cases, yes—especially if you have a good combi boiler. If your home has a gravity-fed system with a tank in the loft, you may need to install a pump to achieve decent water pressure.
Can I change a shower from boiler to electric?
Technically yes, but it’s quite involved. We’d need to run a 10mm cable all the way back to the consumer unit, which typically means making access holes every metre or so to fish the cable through the wall. That’s in a modern timber-framed house—if the property is built with solid brick walls, surface-mounted trunking would likely be needed instead. Unless absolutely necessary, it’s often not worth the disruption and cost.
Are panels or tiles better?
UPVC panels are generally more affordable and easier to maintain, making them a practical choice for many bathrooms. Tiles, on the other hand, offer a more classic, high-end look—but they do come at a higher cost and require a bit more upkeep. That said, when using large-format tiles with epoxy grout, they can actually outperform panels in both quality and ease of cleaning—though this option tends to cost more than twice as much.
Is vinyl click flooring or tiles better?
We generally recommend vinyl click flooring, as it’s more affordable than tiles and feels warmer underfoot. The main situations where we’d suggest tiles instead are if you’re having a wetroom (where tiles are essential), if you’re planning underfloor heating (as tiles conduct heat more efficiently), or if you’re aiming for the most premium finish—tiles do have a slight edge in terms of overall appearance.

Make Use of Room Shape
This ensuite had an unusual layout, so we made the most of the space by creating a wetroom. This not only maximised functionality but also delivered a sleek, modern finish. You can find the whole project here.

Bring some of your own items
In this ensuite in the Hilton area of Aberdeen, the customer opted to use a basin they had purchased themselves. You can find the whole project here.

Units Above Toilet
This customer wanted maximum storage in a very small bathroom. To make the most of the space, we installed two units above the toilet unit, providing ample storage. To enhance functionality, we fitted mirrors on the front, turning them into mirrored cabinets. You can find the whole project here.

Shower Enclosure out of Bifold Doors
In very small spaces, we’ve installed showers like this using two frameless bifold doors with 45-degree magnetic closures. When shut, they create a fully enclosed shower area while keeping the space open and unobtrusive when not in use. You can find the whole project here.

Small Corner Sink
A compact corner sink helps maximise space, allowing for more versatile bathroom design options. You can find the whole project here.

Small Vanity Unit
If space is tight, choosing a smaller basin is a better option than compromising on the toilet or shower, ensuring practicality without sacrificing comfort. You can find the whole project here.

L Shaped Units
You’ll spot this feature in several of our projects – it’s a clever way to maximise storage when every bit of space counts. It proved to be the perfect solution for our customer in Portlethen. You can find the whole project here.

Use a Pocket Door
This bathroom features a pocket door, making it possible to accommodate both a shower and a bathtub—something that wouldn’t have been feasible with a standard door. You can find the whole project here.

Get a Pocket Door
This Newmachar property featured a pocket door, a smart space-saving solution that enhances both functionality and flow. You can find the whole project here.

Recess for Radiator
In particularly tight spaces, recessing the radiator can be a smart space-saving solution. We implemented this approach in this West End property. You can find the whole project here.

Recessed cabinet and illuminated recess
This bathroom had a hollow wall, allowing us to integrate a built-in cabinet and add an illuminated recess at the bottom for a stylish, functional touch. You can find the whole project here.

Shower Illuminated Recess
An illuminated shower recess adds a stylish touch, and when paired with an LED mirror, it provides soft lighting for nighttime use. This means you can navigate the bathroom without switching on the main lights, avoiding harsh glare in the dark. You can find the whole project here.

Complementary Tiles
In this bathroom, we used three coordinating tiles from the same range: 600×600 for the floor, 600×300 for the walls, and a textured tile to highlight the vanity wall. You can find the whole project here.

Utilised the space at the end of the shower
In this project, we had approximately 150mm of space around the walk-in shower, which we utilised to create three recessed niches—one inside the shower for convenience and two on the side for additional storage. We also installed a compact pull-out unit at the bottom, making the most of the available space. You can find the whole project here.

Shower Recess
A shower niche is a practical addition and can be fitted into a standard stud wall, though it will be just enough to hold shampoo bottles. This was for a property in Dyce. You can find the whole project here.

Extend Toilet Soil Pipe
In this project, we extended the toilet soil pipe and built recesses, creating a seamless unit for the toilet that enhances both functionality and aesthetics. You can find the whole project here.
