This project was particularly special because it involved transforming an old utility room into a combined shower room and practical laundry area, while carefully working around the existing heat pump and all associated pipework.
A new dividing wall was built where the original door and window met, creating two clearly defined spaces. The heat pump was neatly boxed in with a dedicated access door, while additional boxing with removable access panels was constructed around the wall-mounted pipework. A dual-fuel towel radiator was also fitted, providing reliable warmth throughout the year.
The utility area was designed to keep the washing machine and tumble dryer stacked neatly together and separate from the main bathroom, making everyday laundry easier without compromising the look or comfort of the shower room.
The bathroom itself was finished with low-maintenance wall panels, tiled flooring and a generous shower area with built-in recesses for convenient storage. The utility section was plastered and painted, giving it a clean, practical finish.
One compromise involved the toilet layout. A 600mm vanity unit would have created slightly more space around the toilet, but the customer preferred the additional storage and visual impact of an 800mm unit. Although this positioned the toilet closer to the vanity, the final layout remained practical and suited the customer’s priorities.
Overall, we transformed a room that had previously felt like wasted space into an attractive and highly functional part of the home. The property now benefits from a second shower and toilet, a more convenient laundry area and a room the customer can be proud to show guests, rather than one they would prefer to keep hidden.
