This bathroom in Aberdeen originally had both a bath and shower, along with some storage, but the layout wasn’t making the best use of the available space.

We completely redesigned the room to improve the flow, storage and overall appearance. The basin and toilet were moved away from the window and repositioned on the wall opposite the shower, while the radiator was relocated closer to the door. We fitted a dual-fuel towel radiator with the pipework coming neatly through the wall for a cleaner finish.

The original shower enclosure was replaced with a much more open and easy-to-clean walk-in shower, finished with our solid-core wall panels and an illuminated recessed shelf. The corner bath was also removed and replaced with a modern freestanding bath, complemented by a wall-mounted bath filler and additional illuminated recesses.

One of the biggest improvements was the storage. We created a wall-to-wall run of fitted units with a countertop basin, LED mirror and integrated toothbrush charger. Large-format 600 × 600 mm tiles were used across the main walls to approximately 2.4 metres high, helping to give the room a cleaner, more contemporary appearance with fewer grout lines.

For the flooring, we used vinyl click flooring. It is a particularly practical choice for bathrooms because it is warm underfoot, easy to maintain and very resistant to everyday wear. In many situations, it can actually perform better in practical terms than considerably more expensive tiled flooring.

We also made use of an otherwise awkward corner by creating bespoke 45-degree shelves, finished with metallic trims matching the tile trims used throughout the bathroom.

Probably the most distinctive feature, however, is the cabinetry. The cabinet doors were manufactured to a specific RAL colour so they match the wall colour almost exactly, creating a much more integrated, bespoke appearance.

Although we have had access to this option from our cabinet-door supplier for some time, this was the first project where we used it for a customer. It is a genuine premium upgrade: made-to-order RAL-coloured doors typically cost around four times as much as standard-colour doors and have a lead time of approximately four weeks. The result, however, is something you simply cannot achieve with standard off-the-shelf cabinetry.
