This was a slightly more challenging project in an older granite house, with part of the room sitting below ground level. The space had previously been a cloakroom, and the customer wanted to turn it into a proper bathroom while still keeping some useful storage.
With a ceiling height of just over 1800mm, a shower wasn’t really an option, so a freestanding bath was the best choice. It suits the room well and creates a calm, relaxing space. The walls were fully tiled for durability and easy cleaning, with wood-effect tiles around the bath and vanity to add warmth and character.
Because there wasn’t enough space in the ceiling for lights, we used wall lights placed either side of the wood-effect tiles. This gives a softer, more welcoming light and helps highlight the different finishes. The grey ceiling works nicely with this, drawing attention to the bath and vanity area without making the room feel closed in.
Storage was carefully thought through, with a vanity unit with drawers and an additional wall-hung unit to keep the room practical and clutter-free. We also moved the vanity and toilet onto the side wall to improve the layout and make the space easier to use. A pump was fitted under the bath to suit the home’s low-pressure system.
The end result is a comfortable, well-balanced bathroom that feels warm and practical, making much better use of the space while respecting the character of the house.
